Names and numbers that last outside
Type the house name, family name or number, and the generator puts an outline plate behind the letters so the sign is one solid piece with a flat back. Print it in PETG or ASA, not PLA, and it survives years of sun and rain. Designing is free; you pay when you download the STL or 3MF.

Why the outline plate works outside
A house sign made from loose letters needs every letter lined up and fixed on its own. The outline base solves that: a plate follows the contour of the whole name, 1.5 to 6 mm past the letters, and the letters sit on top of it. You mount one part, and it has a flat back that sits flush on a wall, a post or a gate.
For outdoors, push the outline width to 4 to 6 mm and the thickness to 6 to 10 mm. The plate grows with thickness (40% of it, at least 2 mm), so a 10 mm sign gets a 4 mm backing that won't flex in the wind or crack when you tighten a screw.

Which filament for an outdoor sign
This is the part that decides whether the sign lasts one summer or ten. The numbers are typical glass transition temperatures, the point where the plastic starts to soften.

Light colours stay much cooler in the sun than black or dark blue. On a south-facing wall, pick a light plate colour with dark letters, or print both parts in ASA.
Size: readable from the street
A common signage rule is about 25 mm of letter height for every 10 feet (3 m) of reading distance. Many local codes in the US ask for house numbers of at least 4 inches (about 100 mm). Check what your area requires.

Print time for a 250 mm sign at 8 mm thick in PETG is typically 2 to 3 hours and 50 to 80 g of filament.
When the sign is bigger than your printer
The generator exports one piece. If it's wider than your bed, you have two honest options. Use the cut tool in Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer to split the sign between two letters, print both halves and glue or screw them to a backing board. Or put each word on its own row, print the rows separately and mount them one above the other. For single big characters, 3D printed letters covers sizes and mounting.
Both work, but the seam shows if you look for it. For a long name that has to be read from 10 m away, a professionally cut aluminium or wood sign may simply be the better choice. No printer at all? Mounting on brick, render, wood and metal
Brick and render
Drill 6 mm holes with a masonry bit, add wall plugs and use stainless steel screws. Drill the sign first with a 4 mm bit at low speed. Or use an exterior construction adhesive (polyurethane or MS polymer) on clean, dry stone.
Wood, fence or post
Stainless or galvanised screws straight through the plate. Pre-drill the sign so the plastic doesn't split, and don't overtighten.
Metal gate or letterbox
Exterior-grade double-sided foam tape on a smooth, clean surface. It doesn't hold on rough brick, so use screws there.
Backing board
Glue the sign onto a slate, hardwood or aluminium composite board and mount the board. It looks more finished and hides any split seam.
Print settings for outdoor signs
- 4 walls or more. Walls carry the strength and keep water out of the infill.
- 20 to 30% infill, gyroid or grid.
- 0.2 mm layers. The sign is read from metres away, finer layers only cost time.
- No supports. Print flat on its back.
- Two colours. The 3MF puts letters and plate on separate filament slots. Without an AMS, add a filament change where the letters begin. The method is in printing text in a different colour.
Questions people ask
What filament should I use for a 3D printed house sign?
ASA if your printer is enclosed, PETG if it isn't. Both handle sun and rain. PLA softens around 55 to 60 °C and a dark sign in summer sun gets that hot, so keep PLA indoors.
How big should house numbers be?
Many US codes ask for at least 4 inches (about 100 mm), and fire services prefer them visible from the street. As a rule of thumb, allow about 25 mm of letter height per 3 m of reading distance.
How do I mount a 3D printed address sign on brick?
Drill the brick with a 6 mm masonry bit, use plugs and stainless screws, and pre-drill the sign with a 4 mm bit. Exterior construction adhesive also works on clean, dry stone.
My house name is wider than my print bed. What now?
Cut the model into two parts in your slicer and join them on a backing board, or put each word on its own row and print them separately. For very long names read from far away, a cut metal or wood sign may be the better option.
Can I paint or seal a printed house sign?
PETG and ASA don't need sealing. If you want a painted look, a light sand and an outdoor acrylic primer and paint work. A clear UV lacquer can slow colour fading.
