A gift tag nobody throws away
Paper gift tags end up in the recycling bag with the wrapping paper. A printed name tag stays: kids hang it on the tree, adults put it on their keys, and next year it comes out of the ornament box again.
The preset uses the keychain base with Lobster, a bold script that reads well at small sizes. The letters sit on a backing plate with a ring hole at the end. Script names are joined into one connected piece, so nothing breaks off when someone tugs at the ribbon.
Tag sizes and print times
Set the size in the slicer by scaling the model. Length is measured across the whole tag including the hole.

Typical values with 15% infill and 2 to 3 mm letter thickness. Your printer and speed profile change them.
Make a tag

Type the name
One row is the most readable. Add a second row with "2026" if the tag should become a dated ornament.

Size the ribbon hole
The hole is adjustable from 8 to 60% of the tag height. For thin cord keep the default. For 5 to 10 mm satin ribbon go to 35 to 45%, so you can thread it without scissors and swearing.

Pick thickness
2 to 3 mm letters are enough. Thicker tags are stiffer but take longer and look heavy on a small present.

Export and print
Export STL for one colour or 3MF for two. Print flat on the plate, no supports. A textured PEI plate gives the back a nice finish.
Two colours, with or without an AMS
With an AMS
The 3MF puts letters and plate on separate filament slots. Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer open it with two colours assigned: white letters on a red tag, gold on green. No painting, no setup.
Without an AMS
Add a filament change at the layer where the letters start. The print pauses, you swap filament, it carries on. The two-colour guide without an AMS shows the exact layer.
One colour
Gold or silver silk PLA looks good on its own. The raised letters catch the light and stay readable without a second colour.
Ways to use the tags
One tag per person, not per present
Print one tag per family member and put it on their biggest present. Smaller presents get paper. It saves print time and makes the printed tag feel special.
Tag plus ornament
Tie the tag on with a loop of gold cord long enough to hang on a branch. After unwrapping it goes straight to the tree. For a round version, see the Christmas ornament with a name.

Place cards at dinner
Put a tag on each plate at Christmas dinner. Guests find their seat and take the tag home.
What a printed tag can't do
It can't carry a long message. "To Lukas, love Grandma" on one tag means 3 rows at a size nobody can read. Keep the name on the tag and write the message on a card inside.
It also isn't the quick option for 40 presents. If Santa brings everything, a printed tag on each gift means a full day of printing. Print tags for the main present per person and use paper for the rest.

How big should a 3D printed gift tag be?
50 to 75 mm long. 60 mm fits most names and looks right on a shoebox-sized present. Scale the model in your slicer to set the final length.
